Manuscripts on Disk
Studio E Books accepts manuscripts
on diskette. In fact, most of our book design/typesetting work comes in
on diskette nowadays, and our final output is usually digital. If prepared
correctly (see below), disk copy works wonderfully and saves lots of time
and money.
Please send by post; do not e-mail. We have found that e-mail
copy is unreliable.
Preparing Manuscripts on Disk
The items in boldface are required for us to read your disk
at all. The rest will help us work most easily (and economically) with your
files.
- Diskettes must be 3.25" floppies or ZIP disks, or CD. Mac
or PC format is okay.
- Files must be saved in Rich Text Format (RTF).
Open your document and choose File > Save As... and select "RTF"
under Format or Type. Or consult your User's Manual.
- Each chapter may be a separate file, or the entire book may be in one
file. Either way.
- Character styles (sizes, italics, small caps, etc.) and paragraph styles
are okay. But do not use multiple spaces, tabs, or returns for special
formatting for tables, poems, etc. The simpler the better.
- Captions for illustrations should be in a separate file (or on paper,
or attached to the illos).
- Tables and footnotes: Please enquire before preparing tables or footnotes.
- Advanced users: Please ask for detailed specifications to produce typeset-ready
files.
